Community supported agriculture is a social movement that arose in the US in the late 1980s because people recognized a need to produce healthy, clean, safe, ecologically sound and spiritually energized – foods while caring appropriately for the environment. It was clear then as it is today that agriculture within the pressures of the current economic system is subject to so many degrading economic forces that it is incapable of producing foods that provided the nutrients necessary for proper human health and development. While there are larger issues at stake when children (and adults) are developing with only a fraction of the nutrition required to reach their full potential, we can see these nutritional short comings in increasing rates of cancers, allergies and intestinal problems. Richard is an American expat who escaped from a successful Silicon Valley career to Wexford Ireland where he spends his time communicating to the world through several blogs and websites about how We the People can organize into a truly democratic and sustainable new society in the face of the hyper-capitalism that is destroying our health and well-being on every level.
I first became aware of Richard’s work through his article Escaping the Matrix, which appeared in Steward Brand’s The Whole Earth Review back in 1999. Using the metaphor of “the red pill” from the movie The Matrix, Richard opened my eyes to the deceit that passes as ‘the official truth’ in the mainstream media and our daily lives. 1999 was a much simpler time. SInce 911 it’s not uncommon for even popular tv shows to accept that we cannot trust our government. In 1999, even after the revalations of the Pentagon Papers or The People’s History books, though, it wasn’t quite as common. Richard simply and clearly exposed how corporations use taxpayers dollars and the military powers of our government to forward imperialistic programs around the globe for the benefit of their own bottom lines. It doesn’t matter to corporate planners how many trillions of dollars are spent to support access to oil or other commodities if the expenses are shouldered by the taxpayers and don’t cost them anything at all, probably not even taxes on their own income. Our guest is Dr Kate Rheaume-Bleue, the world’s foremost expert on the incredibly important, but little known, nutrient, Vitamin K2. Vitamin K2 tells our body how to utilize calcium and Vitamin D, among many other important benefits. In 1945, Dr. Weston Price described “a new vitamin-like activator” that played an influential role in the utilization of minerals, protection from tooth decay, growth and development, reproduction, protection against heart disease and the function of the brain.
Using a chemical test, he determined that this compound—which he called Activator X—occurred in the butterfat, organs and fat of animals consuming rapidly growing green grass, and also in certain sea foods such as fish eggs.
Dr. Price died before research by Russian scientists became known in the West. These scientists used the same chemical test to measure a compound similar to vitamin K.
Vitamin K2 is produced by animal tissues, including the mammary glands, from vitamin K1, which occurs in rapidly growing green plants.
A growing body of published research confirms Dr. Price’s discoveries, namely that vitamin K2 is important for the utilization of minerals, protects against tooth decay, supports growth and development, is involved in normal reproduction, protects against calcification of the arteries leading to heart disease, and is a major component of the brain.
Vitamin K2 works synergistically with the two other “fat-soluble activators” that Price studied, vitamins A and D. Vitamins A and D signal to the cells to produce certain proteins and vitamin K then activates these proteins.
Vitamin K2 plays a crucial role in the development of the facial bones, and its presence in the diets of nonindustrialized peoples explains the wide facial structure and freedom from dental deformities that Weston Price observed.

On top of this, he’s a recognized expert in vermiculture and soil fertility.
The reason we requested an interview with him for Biodynamics Now! is because of the insights into Quality (in foods and in living) that he demonstrated in All in This Tea and through his tea companies, tea teaching and his work with heirloom grains and The Last Resort. Frankly, we’d need to spend 3 more hours with him (at least) in order to even begin to cover his insights into this area.
It appears to me that everything he does is for the betterment of everyone, now and in the future.

The most obvious quality that separates “organic” farmers and gardeners from chemical farmers and gardeners is an innate respect for the Wisdom of Nature, which is generally arises from a strong sense of the spiritual nature of working with the land and with plants.
Two teachers of note who arose on these topics in the Seventies were Peter Tomkins and Alan Chadwick.
Tompkins, and co-author Christopher Byrd, with the publication of The Secret Life of Plants, made Americans aware for the first time that plants were sentient, that if a human being pays attention to them (or plays music to them!), they will respond in positive ways.
Chadwick was already working with these insights and had a unique ability as a teacher to open other people to these new awarenesses in such a way that, in a time when people thought food could only be grown with artificial fertilizers and a lot of pesticide application, individuals were empowered to create gardens without chemicals of such astounding fertility that they out produced conventional farmers by many fold.
